This beginner-level class assumes no prior knowledge of programming. The only requirement is a knowledge of the core Linux/Unix commands. For those with no prior Linux knowledge, we recommend the GeekAustin Intro to the Command Line class.

The beginning Bash class start with a demonstration of command-line editing and customizing the user environment. It then goes on to cover the following topics:

Input, Output, and Throughput (piping and redirection)
Flow Control (Looping and Branching)
Command-Line Parsing and Expansion
Parameters and Variables
Shell Functions
String Manipulation

Course materials will be provided by the instructor.
Students are requested to sign up for a basic EC2 account at Amazon. The cost is negligible. ($0.10/Gbyte/Month fee for EBS storage over 10Gbytes)

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:

Mark Lehmann and Boyd Hemphill are veteran instructors of GeekAustin classes. Their most recent classes were MySQL Associate Certification Prep and Topics in MySQL Replication.
